A quality education for all of the world's children is the vision of Positive Planet.
Established in 2003, Positive Planet has begun its work creating and supporting dynamic partnerships between school communities in the United States and rural Uganda. Universal primary education (U.P.E.) has been adopted by the Government of Uganda and U.P.E schools are government supported and free to all students. Limited resources leave most schools critically under-funded, and therefore overcrowded, without sufficient classrooms, books, educational materials or safe drinking water. Improving the quality of education in these schools, which serve the poorest of Uganda's children, many of whom are AIDS orphans, is the mission of Positive Planet.
Positive Planet supports our U.S. school communities in fundraising activities for their sister schools. These funds are used entirely for infrastructure improvements including building new classroom buildings, repairing existing structures, building desks and chairs, and establishing safe rainwater harvesting in the Ugandan schools. We also provide an educational curriculum about Africa with a focus on Uganda for the U.S. schools.
Through the exchange of pen pal letters between students and teachers in our sister schools, our children gain knowledge about the lives of people in other lands and communities . Our program has significantly improved the quality of education for our Ugandan students while educating our American students about the world they will soon inherit and the value of helping others.
